USAIHC Announces Repertoire

The USA International Harp Competition has announced repertoire for its eleventh competition, which will take place in 2019. The competition takes place every three years in Bloomington, Ind. and is open to harpists of all nationalities between the ages of 18 and 32 as of May 1, 2019.

Stage 1

  • Any Prelude and Fugue from The Well-Tempered Clavier, by J. S. Bach
  • Variations sur l’air “Je suis encore dans mon printemps”, Op. 36, by Louis Spohr
  • Le Jardin Mouillé, by Jacques de la Presle

Stage 2

  • Sarabanda e Toccata, by Nino Rota
  • Une Châtelaine en sa Tour, by Gabriel Fauré
  • Choose one:
    Sonata for Harp, Op. 150, by Ernst Krenek
    Sonata for Harp, by Germaine Tailleferre
  • Choose one:
    Ballade, Op. 28, by Carlos Salzedo
    Ballade Fantastique, by Henriette Renié

Stage 3

A free choice program of 40 minutes to include:

  • 6th Composition Contest winning composition (TBA, maximum 8 minutes)
  • Spoken program notes not to exceed five minutes of the 40-minute program.
    The performer may speak in any language. A printed transcription in English must be provided to the jury.

Stage 4

  • Choose one:
    Liebesträume No. 3, by Franz Liszt (any edition)
    The Lark, by Mikhail Glinka (any edition)
  • Joaquín Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez
