Suoni d’Arpa Competition Announced

Suoni d'Arpa International Harp Contest in Italy will be held in Saluzzo, Italy Sept 2-7, 2017
April 12, 2017

The Italian Harp Association has just announced their 7th International Harp Competition, “Suoni d’Arpa,” to be held in the medieval town of Saluzzo from September 2nd to 7th, 2017. The competition is open to harpists of all nationalities and offers three age categories for solo performers in addition to a “duo with harp” category.

Under the artistic direction of Emanuela Degli Esposti and Lorenzo Montenz, the competition seeks to “spread knowledge of the Italian repertoire, original or suitable for harp.” The repertoire requirements include such works as Alessandro Longo’s “Serenata,” a freely chosen competition from Sara Simari and Lincoln Almada’s “Tradizione dell’arpa popolare viggianese,” and “Preludio di Primavera” by Daniele Garella (who also offers a selection of works on Harp Column Music).

Prizes range from € 300 to € 1,000, with extra cash prizes offered by sponsors such as Salvi harps and the Hong Kong Harp Centre, a CD recording with the label Tactus for the 1st prize winner of the top solo category, and performance opportunities for the solo and duo categories.

Running alongside the Harp Festival Suoni D’Arpa, the competition is also an opportunity for participants to hear concerts presented by Gabriella Dall’Olio, Park Stickney, Chiara Granata, Marcella Carboni, Benoît Wéry, and more, as well as previous winners of the competition and the Rencontres Internationales en Ile de France, as well as the Hong Kong Harp Talents. There will also be a tour of the Museo dell’arpa Victor Salvi offered during the week.

Applications are due on July 10th, 2017. For complete information about the competition, visit their website.
