The Summer Harp Institutes inspire students to grow to the next level of artistry and provide all the camaraderie of a summer music experience where harpists form friendships that last a lifetime.
Harpists looking for a rigorous program will benefit from an intensive week of orchestral training through mock audition, and master classes with Elizabeth Hainen and renowned Curtis alumna, Judy Loman (Harp ’56). Whether looking to enter competitions or merely seeking a greater knowledge of the repertoire, students will benefit from a full exploration of harp literature.

The HarpArts Music Retreat, June 4 – 11, 2017, offers an unparalleled opportunity for a limited number of adult harpists to improve their harp playing, expand their musical horizons, and take their playing to the next level in an inclusive and supportive environment. Pedal and lever players participate in a week of private lessons, group lessons, and ensemble. Classes include performance optimization, music theory, and aural skills.
The Rocky Mountain Springs Harp Program strives to supplement the education of young harpists through intensive summer programs which treat each harpist as a whole person, with teachers who act as mentors and friends.
Training in harp technique, musicianship and performance is enhanced by program elements designed to improve mental attitudes and abilities, physical health and conditioning, aesthetic appreciation, and connections between music and other disciplines.

Anderson University Harp Camp is a 5-day camp that provides aspiring harpists the opportunity to expand the knowledge and appreciation of the harp and sharpen solo and collaborative performing abilities. Anderson University Harp Camp is being offered in conjunction with the Anderson University String Camp for chamber music opportunities.

The International Harp Workshop ARPA HORTA aims to unite the rich qualities of a magical instrument with those of an agricultural landscape.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp offers harpists of all levels the opportunity for intensive summer study in a traditional camp environment. Twelve day sessions conclude with a recital for family and friends. Daily classes include: private lessons, ensemble skills, theory, history, and practice time. Enrollment is limited to six students per session, and pedal harps are provided. Students may also select from a wide range of minor classes in other arts areas.
Harp camp at Bob Jones University isn’t your typical cabin-insect-lake experience. BJU camps are designed around campers’ particular interests. The mission of BJU summer camps is to help you grow Christlike character as you learn about a specific field. In addition to the daily ensemble rehearsals, solo master classes, private lessons, and performances, all camps include chapel, personal Bible study, nightly group devotions in the residence halls, and recreation.
Boston University Tanglewood Institute is recognized as a premier summer training program for young musicians and is the only program of its kind associated with one of the world’s great symphony orchestras. Under the guidance of distinguished professionals, and in the presence of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, students are immersed in an atmosphere of extraordinary music making fueled by high artistic standards, rigorous programming, and a rich legacy of learning and performance.
Immerse yourself in this 10-day Jazz Harp intensive, hosted by Cristina Braga and the Jazz Harp Foundation at Uaná Etê Music Garden, a gorgeous retreat 2 bus hours from Rio de Janeiro. While there is a strong focus on Brazilian Latin Jazz, ‘regular’ jazz learnings are well represented in the curriculum. Separate classes for jazz harp beginners, intermediates and advanced & many great activities together. Top faculty including Carol Robbins, Cristina Braga, Felice Pomeranz, Kurt Schwab & others.
Brevard provides a congenial summer community for young musicians of exceptional gifts. Four hundred students, ages 14 – 29, enroll each year who represent nearly every state in the U.S. and several other countries. Brevard presents 80 public concerts throughout its seven-week festival including major orchestral, chamber, and operatic repertoire.
Harp students ages 5-18 of all levels, methods, and traditions are invited to join us for a week of harp ensemble, masterclasses with guest artists, music theory, enrichment classes, and more with Kela Walton and the faculty at Buffalo Suzuki Strings. Space is limited, and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The workshop will conclude with a final harp ensemble concert on August 17, 2018.
A unique program for lever and pedal harpists of all levels to immerse themselves in a week of lessons, ensembles and workshops with exceptional teachers and enjoy the camaraderie of similarly motivated students. Participants feel supported to explore their instrument in depth, according to their own goals and abilities. All students and faculty reside at the spectacular Sanctum Retreat sharing meals, laughter, quiet walks, spontaneous jam sessions and fireside chats.
Coda’s Summer Music Festival is an intensive, two-week residential music program led by Coda’s artistic faculty in Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. Harp students receive c. two private lessons weekly, play in harp master classes, and attend music classes (some harp-specific) in addition to playing in harp ensemble, chamber ensembles, and large ensemble. The two weeks of study culminate in several end-of-festival student performances featuring student chamber groups and large ensembles.
The Curtis Institute of Music educates young musicians for careers at the highest professional level. During the summer, Curtis opens its doors to provide musicians the opportunity to experience its “learn by doing” philosophy. The fifth annual David’s Harp School will be held as part of the Summer Worship Intensive at Reach Out for Christ Church in Freeville, NY. Teachings and activations designed to illuminate Biblical models for the harp, including worship as seen in the Psalms. Opportunities for worship with harpists and other instrumentalists, especially in creating new songs and spontaneous worship music. A one-week intensive harp summer program for intermediate to advanced students of all ages, designed to assist in developing harpists through the exploration of ensemble performance, stage presence, and harp maintenance. Enrichment activities, rehearsals, and coachings will culminate with all students performing in a concert on the last afternoon of the program. Students and families will have the additional opportunity to enjoy a vendor fair sponsored by the Virginia Harp Center.
This is a try-it-out style camp for children ages 6-10 who are new to the harp. The camp will be taught by Zoe Coppola, a professional harpist and graduate of the Peabody Conservatory.

An exciting week of solo and ensemble experiences, open to harpists entering grades 9, 10, 11 or 12. Participants also have the opportunity to attend special master classes on a variety of topics including: orchestra excerpts, chamber music, improvisation & arranging, harp maintenance, pilates & yoga, and career discussions. UT Senior Lecturer in Harp, Delaine Leonard, leads this program. This camp culminates with a student performance.
The Hot Springs Music Festival pairs world-class mentor musicians from major orchestras, chamber ensembles and conservatory faculties with especially talented pre-professional apprentices–all of whom receive full tuition scholarship. This year’s theme is “Dancing with my Harp.” We welcome incoming 6th through graduated 12th grade students for a non-competitive week of comprehensive studies on the many aspects of the harp and its music, history and ensemble playing. Ensemble rehearsals culminate in an extraordinary recital at the end of the week. Other exciting classes and activities include “Famous Harpists,” “Wedding Workshop,” masterclasses, and private lessons with our faculty.
Celebrating 35 years of summer study of lever harp in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Past instructors have included Kim Robertson, Sharlene Wallace, Sunita Stanislow, Robin Huw Bowen, Maeve Gilchist, Louise Trotter and a host of other well-know lever harpists. Students can camp or stay in local hotels. Running concurrently is our new cello class.
Located at the conservatory in Nice, every summer, some of the best musicians around the world are invited to teach the next generation. The summer harp programs at Montclair State University offer an experience that is unique to the New York Metropolitan area. Students are able to experience what it is like to attend a world-class music school complete with personal practice rooms and full use of rehearsal and performance spaces. The Nebraska Harp Workshop is a one-week intensive of harp ensemble, classes, performing, recording opportunities and faculty recitals by instructors Julie Smith Phillips, Rachel Starr Ellins & Gaye LeBlanc. This Harp Weekend is designed to improve the Jazz & Pop musical skills of our student harpists and also to generate interest among music students to study jazz harp on a more regular basis. Guest Artists: Ben Creighton Griffiths, Welsh Jazz harpist, Patrice Fisher, Rachel Van Voorhees, Rebecca Babin and Luke Brechelsbauer.
OSAS is a week-long harp camp for ages 12-up, held on the campus of Oberlin College. The purpose is to learn Scottish music on lever and wire harps, and to make friends. Classes include singing, morning and afternoon harp classes on four levels, lectures, mixed instrument classes, and nightly sessions for adults, with activities for the teens. The week begins with the optional Ohio Scottish Games harp competition on Saturday, and runs through Friday noon.
The Round Top Festival Institute offers six weeks (no absence is permitted) of intensive training for young talented musicians (born before December 31, 2000) seeking a transition from conservatories and universities to a future professional career. Symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, chamber music and solo repertoire are included in this concentrated 6-week program.
Four-week orchestra, chamber music and piano training program for talented young musicians ages twelve through graduate school, held each summer at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. Harpists have weekly lessons and chamber music assignments.

SummerKeys is an adult music camp located at the easternmost tip of Maine. People of all abilities, from complete beginner to advanced, are welcome. There are no auditions, and no requirements. Daily individual and group lessons, as well as ensemble work.
The Summer Harp Academy is a comprehensive program designed to develop the versatile harpist. Harpists will be able to hone their performance and professional skills under the instruction of acclaimed professors Elzbieta Szmyt and Jan Jennings. The SHA includes a faculty recital, daily masterclasses, lectures and ensemble rehearsals; and concludes with a student recital. Practice time and private instruction are also available throughout the week.
