Remembering Ursala Holliger

Ursula Holliger; 1937–2014
January 28, 2014

Ursula Holliger died on January 21, at the age of 76, following a long illness. She was the wife of Swiss composer Heinz Holliger. A soloist and chamber musician who specialized in contemporary music, Holliger had works written for her by composers such as Elliott Carter, Hans Werner Henze, Witold Lutoslawski, Ernst Krenek, Frank Martin, Isang Yun, Toru Takemitsu, as well as Heinz Holliger. In 2005 she worked with Elliot Carter to prepare the final version of his concerto Mosaic, and gave the premiere in Switzerland, followed by a recording to mark Carter’s 100th birthday. She performed on both the modern and Baroque harp, and recorded works of Spohr with the English Chamber Orchestra, led by Heinz Holliger. See her complete discography here.
