Duo Scorpio gets ready to perform two new commissions at the World Harp Congress, Sydney.
July 25, 2014

Wow!  What an amazing week it has been.  The World Congress has been such a blast.  It has been great to meet so many incredible harpists from all around the world.  The conference has been so well organized and packed full of wonderful presentations, masterclasses and concerts.  We are absolutely blown away!

This morning was our Duo Scorpio concert and included two world premieres by Andy Akiho and Nico Muhly.  We had such a great time at our concert and can’t believe it’s already over!  The concert was over a year and a half in the making after applying for grants (Chamber Music America and The American Harp Society grants), commissioning the composers, meeting and working with the composers and finally receiving and working on the pieces.  We celebrated by meeting friends living in Sydney for glass of champagne at the Sydney Opera House Cafe.  Our friend Shaun (fellow Manhattan School of Music alum) just so happens to be a percussionist for the Sydney Opera Orchestra and we were lucky enough to get a backstage private tour from him!  He even let us stand on the podium in the pit and play the world’s largest drum backstage – amazing!!

We are looking forward to our final night in Sydney – we plan to have dinner at Mr. Wong (we have been told not to miss this place while in Sydney) and then head over to the Sydney Dance Cafe to hear The Atlantic Harp Duo’s concert!
