Katherine Siochi is the new principal harpist with the Sarasota Orchestra.
May 22, 2017

Katherine Siochi is the new principal harpist with the Sarasota Orchestra following an early May 2017 audition. She will begin the position in September.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Sarasota Orchestra as their principal harpist in the fall!,” says Siochi. “Playing in a professional orchestra has always been one of my goals. I feel incredibly lucky to be fulfilling this dream, and I can’t wait to work with these wonderful musicians. I’m also looking forward to living in such a gorgeous city, especially after spending the past several winters in New York.”

“This was only the second professional audition I’ve ever taken, so going into it I really didn’t know what to expect,” says Siochi of her experience. “I think one of the key areas of my preparation was playing mock auditions/run-throughs for a lot of my colleagues. In the last couple of weeks leading up to the audition, I played a mock audition every day behind a screen. This really helped me to feel more comfortable with the excerpts in this setting.”

This marks the end of a busy season for Siochi who graduated with her Master of Music degree from Juilliard this spring and also won the audition for the New World Symphony Orchestral Academy, which she later declined. Siochi’s recent success comes on the heels of her first prize win at the 2016 USA International Harp Competition last summer.
