Kalamazoo Symphony names Rachel Miller principal harpist

November 7, 2017

Cincinnati harpist Rachel Miller is the new principal harpist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. She won the job after a three-round audition that took place in late October and will be starting her tenure with the orchestra in February 2018. Originally from Michigan, Miller is also principal harpist with the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. “I am looking forward to returning to the area to work with colleagues I know from playing with Southwest Michigan Symphony. It feels a little like another excuse to visit home!”

In addition to KSO and SMSO, Miller is principal harpist with the Binghamton Philharmonic and is a member of the harp duo Beyond Pluck, which seeks to push the boundaries of the instrument. She has degrees in harp performance from Michigan State University and University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Upcoming performances include William Alwyn’s Lyra Angelica concerto for harp and orchestra with the Southwest Michigan Symphony on Nov. 12, 2018.
