Joanna Newsom Lands on Two “Best of 2015” Lists

Joanna Newsom makes NPR and The Guardian's best of 2015 lists.
December 7, 2015

Shout out to Joanna Newsom, who landed a spot on NPR Music’s 50 Favorite Albums of 2015 for her recently released Divers recording. “How can a storyteller confront experiences that defy narrative: generation, death, the stringlike bendability of time? Newsom’s songs, grounded in her harp playing and inimitable soprano, render these heavy topics wondrous,” says NPR’s Ann Powers of the album, which was also just named No. 10 on The Guardian’s Best Album’s of 2015 list.

If you haven’t yet heard Newsom perform tracks from Divers, you’re in luck: she makes her late-night debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, Dec. 8, followed by an airing of her interview with Larry King on December 14. Plus, watch for an exclusive Q and A with Newsom in the January-February 2016 issue of Harp Column. Our CD editor Alison Young will also weigh in with her own verdict on Divers in this issue.
