4th International Harp Competition in Szeged, Hungary

The 4th International Harp Competition in Szeged, Hungary, will take place Nov. 30–Dec. 4., 2016. Szeged is located about 100 miles southeast of Budapest. The competition takes place every three years at Reök Palace, a sponsor of the event along with Camac Harps. Prizes from 300€–2000€ will be awarded in three divisions for harpists Under 25, Under 19, and Under 14. “The aim of this project is to discover new young talented harpists, help all participants to discover new horizons in their musical profession and stimulate the development of harp culture in Hungary,” says Artistic Director Natalia Gorbunova on the competition’s website.

Repertoire includes free-choice programs, along with required repertoire by the Hungarian composers Zoltán Kodály and Ferenc Farkas. The final stage in the U25 category also includes Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro. Jury members include harpists Isabelle Moretti, Letizia Belmondo, Stephen Fitzpatrick, Andrea Vigh, Melinda Felletár,Dalibor Bernatovič, and conductor Sándor Gyüdi.
