I just ordered Carl’s book of 10 pieces by Tournier which includes Vers la Source dans le Bois. I have the old version, and it is so much bother to read and re-learn, I just put it away and look forward to getting a copy with the enharmonics all written in. Thank you, Carl; it’s such a help.

That was so much fun in spite of the terrible flooding that occurred just after I arrived. Harp festivals are always such a treat. Big thanks to Anna Dunwoodie for making all the arrangements again after having to postpone because of the pandemic.

Thank you! There are several of these crunchy chords in that movement, so I guess she meant it!

I got de Quervain’s in both thumbs recently, too. I am doing a minimum amount of practising while I wait for it to heal. Stretch and massage the arm arm above the wrist, not in the area where it’s painful.
This physiotherapist on YouTube helped a lot!

I concur that reading music is a skill that should be nurtured right from the start. As musicians, we are constantly asked to learn a piece of music quickly, even on one day’s notice. If you can’t read music fluently, you can’t take these jobs. It really limits you. It’s good to have a combination of “paper-training” and playing by ear.

Thank you. I guess this is a stand-alone piece, written for harp. I can’t find any information on it.

Sibelius – The Swan of Tuonela has a lovely, easy, one-page harp part. You can find it on IMSLP.

You’re very welcome! I’m so glad you like it!

Thanks for the plug! Lately, I also published an arrangement of The Lark in the Clear Air and Belle Virginie for harp and voice, with the lyrics included. I did Belle Virginie in two keys, for different voices.

Tournier also wrote a lovely suite Six Noëls, and Saint-Saëns wrote Variations Pastorales sur un vieux Noël. The Saint-Saëns can be played either as a solo or with a string quartet.

Oh, yes, Britten wrote some wonderful, but very difficult music. I played A Birthday Hansel with a soprano and it was very challenging for both the singer and the harpist. But it is great music!

I forgot to mention my own arrangements of The Lark in the Clear Air and Belle Virginie which are on Harp Column Music!

I had forgotten the Tournier La Lettre du Jardinier! I performed it years ago. Also, there is a nice suite of songs (poems by different authors) by Haim Permont called Songs of Love and Remembrance. It was performed at the World Harp Congress in 2011. Schumann wrote some songs in which the part can be played on harp: Die Tochter Jepthas, Dem Helden, and An den Mond. Serenade Florentine by Duparc also works on harp.

The first thing that springs to mind is the Interlude from A Ceremony of Carols by Britten, or one of the solos from Rutter’s Dancing Day.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-oa4O3WKRs (second solo at 12:54) Judy Loman wrote a little suite of Christmas carols, though I don’t know if she has published them. Kim Robertson’s collection of Christmas pieces have some quite challenging ones.

Fleur des Blés by Debussy for soprano and piano can work on the harp. There’s a charming lullaby by Herbert Hughes for soprano and harp called Little Boats. Five Greek Melodies for voice and piano by Ravel, and transcribed for voice and harp by Salzedo with Ravel’s approval. The Nightingale by Deborah Henson Conant has a vocal part.If you google soprano and harp, various youtube videos come up that might give you some ideas.
