Hi everyone. I didn’t get an answer in the other area Harps and Accessories so I’ll try here. I’m getting a DHC Electric Harp and I’m NOT really into Jazz. I’d like some suggestions on music to play and where you may have purchased it. Some music that I have for my lever harp will do, but most of my pedal harp music would not do for obvious reasons. I was just looking for music really geared more for this type of harp.

    Thanks,
    Kay

Here: http://www.hipharp.com/blog/15478″>http://www.hipharp.com/blog/15478 you can find Deborah Henson-Conant’s five minute clip of the possibilities of an electric harp with looper pedals and a distortion pedal and a wah wah pedal.

    Maybe this clips works inspirational.

Perhaps, you could find the kind of information you are looking for on her site, or you could try and contact her.

Thank so much for the response! I have watched that and many of her videos. Was hoping to get feedback from other folks who actually play the 32 light as well. I love the music that I see Athy play. Didn’t know if most of it was original or if it was out there for purchase. I will play some of my other harp music on the light, but was hoping for a whole new avenue (other than jazz and blues).

    Thanks,
    Kay

    Hi Kay,
I play any manner of different things on my DHC. I love it. I love messing about with the looper. Here’s a version of Scarborough Fair https://youtu.be/b4i6jCiMqik
There are a few other DHC videos on my YouTube channel too. I do lots of pop, folk, jazz – a bit of everything. It’s a really versatile instrument. I wasn’t sure what I would do with it when I got it but I just have fun and mess about with stuff. If it works, great, if not never mind! I was asked to do Black Sabbath “Paranoid” for a wedding last year (I think they had been watching the harp twins!) which was fun to do. There’s a clip of that one on my instagram page along with quite a few other things that I’ve had a go at. Feel free to have a browse! https://www.instagram.com/emgharp/

Emma, thank very much. I LOVE your page and your critters are SO CUTE! Yes, I think I’ll just have to mess around with different music and see what works. I definitely see a looper in my future as well. Did you start with printed music for Scarborough Fair and then just elaborate on it with the looper?

Thanks Kay. Yes Scarborough Fair is straight from a printed copy of the Simon/Garfunkel arrangement. I just set the main theme as a loop (I actually have it saved as a loop just in case the live version I play has any glitches in it – top tip!!!) and then play a slightly adapted version of the canticle over it. My duet partner and I also do this version together with one of us just playing the theme and one joining in with the canticle. The version we use is available here. https://goo.gl/images/joN1SK Enjoy. x

For something more mellow, how about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8IuRAZjw6s4
(sheet music is available for download at Melody’s).

Blue Dream World is an entire suite of music composed and performed on an electric harp is transcribed perfectly by the artist, and the book comes with a CD of the entire suite. This is more challenging music, and well worth it. I have always ordered from the artist, as no one in the US carries it. Tracks from the CD are available to listen to online so you can get an idea of the various styles incorporated. http://frimoutmusic.com/En/product.php?id=10

Emma and Rachel, thank you both so much! I will be downloading Scarborough Fair and I intend to order the Blue Dream World book, as that piece was quite lovely. Again, thanks ladies.

Hi Kay, just to be clear, the video I posted was another work (Living Water), from this book:
    https://www.folkharp.com/alexandrova-elitsa/4340-songs-from-thrace.html

However, if you go on Youtube and search for “Blue Dream World Inge”, you will find several of the sound files from the CD that goes with the book, so you can get a very good idea of what it sounds like.

And, if you like Athy’s music, it is out there for sale, and it seems to be geared towards electric harps!

Kay, if you do decide to invest in a looper then Eleanor Turner has written a gorgeous piece for electric harp and loop pedal called “Alice in Escher’s Wonderland”. I play it mostly on pedal harp but it works just as well on the DHC. It isn’t actually published but if you contact Ellie I am sure she would be happy to share the score. She is playing it here:

Emma, thank you. That was lovely. The very last part of the piece where it sounded (for lack of better words) swirly. Was that done with a looper pedal or another pedal?

I got a copy for Scarborough Fair (D. Friou) and it sounds amazing on my new harp! I’m having a lot of fun with my new toy. What an amazing instrument we play!

Hi Kay, it’s an effect that is available in our loopers. I have the Boss RC-30 and I think Ellie has the same one. It has various effects available. The score actually just says fade out but she added the effect and I think it sounds cool so I do it too! You could use a separate effects pedal or just fade out the loop without altering it if your looper didn’t have the option.

    Thanks so much Emma!

I played my new 32 light with the praise band last week. It sounded AMAZING! EVERYONE, loved it.
