Florence Sitruk, professor of music in harp at Indiana University, will perform a benefit concert for the USA International Harp Competition on Nov. 2, 2017. This highly anticipated event will be Sitruk’s debut performance in Bloomington since the announcement of her appointment at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music. The concert features the Grammy-award winning Pacifica Quartet and includes works by Debussy, Mozart and Parish-Alvars, in addition to two American premieres of pieces by György Kurtág and Viktoria Kaunzner. The program is titled “Homecoming,” in reference to memories of her time as a student at Indiana, where she received her Artist Diploma studying with former Distinguished Professor of Harp Susann McDonald, and her return to Bloomington.
Sitruk has won top prizes at seven major international and national competitions, including first prize at the Rome International Harp Competition. She plays regularly with leading orchestras including the Lucerne Festival Strings, Lithuanian Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra, Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. She has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and at the Academy of Music in Kraków, Poland. She was Artistic Director of the International Harp Contest in Israel in 2015.
