Anne Adams Dies

The American Harp Society has announced that harpist and benefactorAnne Adams died on Dec. 9, 2013. Anne Adams received the society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 along with her husband Burton, who died in Nov., 2012 (read more). She was the inspiration for the Anne Adams Awards, funded by Burton from 1990–2003. Anne was a student of Marcel Grandjany at Juilliard and gave the premiere performance of his Aria in Classic Style. She went on to become Principal Harpist with the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, and and was highly regarded as a teacher. She joined the faculty of Mills College, in Oakland, Calif., where she became a friend of Darius Milhaud, who wrote his Sonata for Harp for her.
