The inaugural events of the American Harp Center will take place July 8–July 21 in Potoskey, Mich., and will feature harp study opportunities with Judy Loman, Park Stickney, and Lynne Aspnes, who founded the center this year. The retreat is open to harpists over 18 and is intended “for young professionals and advanced students to perfect their technical skills, hone an interpretation, or just be inspired by the dedication and talent of these marvelous musicians,” says Aspnes.
Aspnes will be available for lessons throughout the two-week retreat period; Loman will be available for lessons from July 13–21 and will give repertoire classes on The Crown of Ariadne (Schaffer, R. Murray) and Variations on a Theme in Ancient Style (Variations sur un theme dans le style ancien) (Salzedo, Carlos); Stickney will offer intensive workshops July 14–15. Lunch is provided by AHC, and housing is available in nearby hotels and B&Bs. Attendees are encouraged to create an experience to fit their needs and budget.
