Julia Coronelli will take over the Principal Harp spot at the New World Symphonyfollowing a recent audition in Chicago. The Miami-based ensemble, under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, serves as a training program for aspiring orchestral musicians and awards fellowships for up to three years. In addition to performing orchestral repertoire, fellows receive coaching, professional development guidance, and audition training. Alumni of the program include Elizabeth Hainen, Adriana Horne, Licia Jaskunas, Tisha Murvihill, Julie Smith, Louise Vickerman, and Grace Browning the current NWS principal harpist.
“When I begin my position as Principal Harpist next season, what I am most looking forward to is the opportunity to work with world-class artists, conductors, and musicians on a daily basis, in a world-class facility unlike any other,” says Coronelli. “In addition to performing weekly with the amazing orchestra, I am greatly looking forward to preparing for future orchestral auditions in a beautiful and inspiring environment. Something that I am particularly excited about is that next season, we are going on tour to Carnegie Hall with Michael Tilson Thomas and Anne-Sophie Mutter.”
Coronelli received an MM degree from Juilliard where she studied with Nancy Allen and a BM from Chicago College of Performing Arts where she studied with Sarah Bullen. She has been playing second harp with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and was a finalist in the recent St. Louis Symphony audition.
