  • Lily Laskine Competition Winners Named

    Japanese harpist Rino Kageyama received second prize in the senior division of the 2008 Lily Laskine Competition. No first prize was awarded.

    Despite a high level of performance from the 25 competitors, the judges voted to withhold the first prize in the senior division of the Lily Laskine Competition. Japanese harpist Rino Kageyama received the second prize, in addition to the prize for the best interpretation of the newly composed work, Two Japanese Folk Songs, by Toshiko Hosokawa.  Agnes Clement of France was awarded third, Alexander Boldachev of Russia received fourth prize, and Emilie Gastaud of France and Elizaveta Bushueva of Russia received honorable mention.
    The 25 competing harpists ranged in age from 14 to 26-years-old. They competed over three rounds, with 12 advancing to the second round, and four making it to the finals. Each of the finalists performed the Zabel Harp Concerto with the Orchestre de la Garde Republicaine.
    In the junior division of the competition, Benjamin Creighton Griffiths of the U.K. received first prize, Liliana Safikhanova of Russia was awarded second prize, and Wesley Hsu of the U.S. won third prize. Aiste Baliunyte of Lithuania, Oriane David of France, Noel Wan of the U.S. all received honorable mention.
