    Hello,

I’m 16 years old and just joined this forum. I’ve been taking harp for 4 or 5 years and am looking at good colleges that teach the Salzedo technique.

Can anybody give me a list of them that I could look into?

    Hi harpist for Christ,

If you are interested in going to a Christian college you might look into The Master’s College in Santa Clarita, California.

Since you mention the Salzedo method, there are several Christian-type colleges you could attend where I could be your teacher in this area: Villanova University, Immaculata, and several others. I would also recommend studying with Emily Halpern Lewis at Gordon College in the Boston area.

Immaculata doesn’t have it’s own harp dept. anymore, and actually sold their old Wurlitzer in the past few years, but there are certainly plenty of harp instructors around, and West Chester Univ. nearby has a strong harp department, and Gloria Galante, the instructor, is trained in both Salzedo and French/Grandjany methods.

My point wasn’t that there was a harp department, but one which has a music department, and is Christian, which West Chester certainly is not!

Thank you so much for the replies- I will definately look into those schools. Also, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a Christian school, others are fine.

Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN has a top rate undergraduate liberal arts program. Their Blair School of Music accomodates majoring, minoring and music as a second major. Although this is a conservatory type program, their harp professor, Marian Shaffer also encourages her students to pursue and prepare for their harp interests including symphonic music, harp ministries, harp therapy, masters programs
